Therapeutic Mentoring

Therapeutic Mentoring
Mentoring That Meets You
Where You Are

Mentoring doesn’t just happen in an office—it happens in real life. Whether we’re walking down a trail in Boulder, sitting in a coffee shop, talking through nerves before a job interview in your car, or even sorting through the chaos of your living room, mentoring shows up wherever it’s needed. As long as the activity supports your growth, autonomy, and progress, it’s fair game.

This flexibility is part of what makes mentoring so effective. It’s not about fitting into a mold—it’s about meeting you where you’re at and helping you move forward.

Mentoring can be a space to talk through whatever’s going on in your life, but it can also go deeper. Here are some of the areas we often explore together:

Group 23 img

Visioning and Planning

We’ll explore your strengths, challenges, and what makes you uniquely you. From there, we’ll build a clear vision of where you want to go—and create a plan to get you there. That includes defining your values, setting goals, and developing a strategy that supports all the key areas of your life.

Relationships & Communication

We’ll build the skills you need to form meaningful relationships—with friends, family, peers, and coworkers. That includes learning to communicate clearly, set boundaries, be assertive, and listen
actively.

Mentoring for Purpose and Depth

Some clients come to us having already achieved a level of independence. They’re managing daily life—but feel the tug toward something more. They may be stuck in old patterns, questioning their path, or feeling called to step into a deeper, more meaningful life.

These clients don’t need someone to help them build a routine—they need someone to challenge their thinking, help them listen more deeply, and walk with them as they clarify who they are and how they want to live. This is mentoring for those seeking not just stability—but a life shaped by purpose, integrity, and conscious growth.

In a world where mediocrity is often the norm, the pursuit of excellence is rare. But if you’re someone who senses there’s more within you—more capacity, more depth in your relationships, more to give and become—then you’ve probably also wondered:
Where are the people who challenge me? Who reflects my potential? Who helps me step into the version of myself I know I could be?

That’s where this deeper layer of mentoring comes in.

We don’t sharpen ourselves in isolation. Real transformation happens in relationship—with someone who is also committed to growth and willing to walk that path beside you. If your life is functional—maybe even fulfilling—but you still sense there’s more ahead, more to uncover, more to become… this phase of mentoring may be exactly what you’ve been seeking.

The 12 Essential Aspects of Life

We begin by mapping your life across twelve key domains—from relationships and purpose to health, creativity, and contribution. This holistic framework helps us identify the areas most in need of attention and alignment, guiding your growth with clarity and structure.

Shadow Work

We explore the parts of you that have been dismissed, denied, or hidden—often unconsciously. Through this process, we reclaim the energy trapped in avoidance, shame, and fear, and move toward greater wholeness and authenticity.

Identifying Your North Star Vision

What kind of life are you here to live? Together, we uncover your deeper longings and define a vision that is both aspirational and actionable—a guiding compass for your choices, goals, and sense of purpose.

Aligning Vision to Action

We take that long-term vision and break it down into tangible steps—1 year, 6 months, monthly, weekly, and daily. This alignment ensures that how you spend your time reflects what matters most to you.

Transforming Habits and Routines

We examine your daily rhythms and patterns to see what’s supporting your growth—and what’s holding you back. Through intentional practice, we replace unconscious habits with new structures and systems that serve your vision and values.

Learning to Transform the Subconscious

Uncovering and reprogramming limiting beliefs is essential for lasting change. We examine the internal stories, assumptions, and subconscious blocks that keep you stuck—and build the skills to shift them at the root.

Creating Your Personal Ethic

What core virtues do you want to live by? What principles will shape your choices in the face of challenge or uncertainty? Together, we articulate your personal ethic—a living expression of your values and a foundation for embodied integrity.

Connecting to Something Greater

Whether you call it God, Source, Life, or simply a sense of meaning beyond the self, we explore your relationship with the sacred—and how that relationship can deepen your direction, resilience, and sense of belonging.

Service and Contribution

This work naturally points toward giving back. As you develop clarity, confidence, and inner alignment, it becomes clear that your growth isn’t just for you—it’s preparation to serve. We explore how your experiences, values, and strengths can become a gift to others—whether through leadership, creative work, community roles, or simply how you show up in the world.

For some clients, this desire to serve becomes the next stage of mentoring.
It’s not just about personal development anymore—it’s about turning everything you’ve learned and integrated into a way of supporting others.

That’s where our Mentor Development Program begins.

The Mentor Development Program is a guided training for clients who are ready to step into service—as mentors, leaders, or simply as more conscious members of their communities. It offers tools, frameworks, and embodied practice to help you share what you’ve earned through your own journey of growth.

James approach and commitment to mentorship is admirable. He’s aided many prospective mentors, families and clients alike in evolving and working towards healthy and fulfilling lives. His dynamic mentorship approach is seemingly endless and he’s a real pro at working with people from all different backgrounds with the outmost respect, professionalism and dedication on their path towards wellness. James’ North Star Vision of being more whole in his own life, working towards his calling while also serving others has made him an exceptional mentor. He has facilitated and challenged me to evolve in my relationships and the same could be said for many others. He really demonstrates his gentle wisdom through his actions. Thank you James for all of your hard work and commitment to excellence in Noble Mentorship! The results simply speak for themselves.

Noble mentors helped me greatly as a young adult. Living multiple states away from immediate family and struggling with mental health was a dangerous recipe. Having someone to encourage me and walk along side me made a massive difference when talk therapy appointments felt so separated from daily life. A mentor was there to push (and drag) me towards the actions I needed to take. 10 years later I still stay in touch with my mentor and think of him as a friend and ally.

My husband and I hired James Farmer to mentor our 18 year old son after he was sent away for a year in wilderness camp and then residential rehab. We were apprehensive about his return. James was the only support we had in place to help our son integrate back into the life he was forced to leave behind a year earlier. Upon his return, they met twice weekly for a period of three months. Our son had no choice, as this was a condition we had set before he came home. So much was at stake. It would be great to say they hit it off and became great friends. But that was not the case. Still? They respected each other. Both were good listeners. Both attentive to the other. James was professional, kind and compassionate, but he didn't over-function the way you might expect (or want) a life-coach to perform. He had great boundaries. He had a way of making my son accountable…to himself, more than anyone else. From afar, it seemed like James did so little, but somehow he consistently brought out the best in our son. It was clear right at the beginning..my son would either show up or not. (eeek?). As parents we stepped back, forcing ourselves to trust the process. It wasn’t linear. James would let our son fail, but he always had this ability (without judging) to get him back to the table. (How can a person do this? I have no clue.) Something was happening. As a mother, after every interaction between the two of them, I could actually see it. It was tangible. Something was evolving. I knew their connection had to do with respect, accountability, being seen and some degree of surrender. In the beginning, I was doubtful that my son was capable or ready for such growth. I will forever be grateful to James and the work he does with these young adults. And btw??? My son graduates from UCCS later this year!! Woohoo! Go figure. Thank you, James. You are amazing!

I took the noble Mentours course with James. He taught us all his wisdom to be a better mentour. To be a better person, and just be more present in life. The lessons I learned there will stay with me forever. James is a man of utmost respect, honesty, integrity, and he knows what he was put on this earth to do. He lives according to his values and shares this with everyone that can benefit. A life of unattachment, value, and love. I respect, admire, and love James and am grateful to call him a mentour and a friend. Cheers to life. Whoever is reading this sending you so much love on your journey. Take the step forward here…you will thank yourself for doing so

James was very helpful to me for many years. Was very reasonable to accommodate and I often still use things I learned from him today that help me through interviews when needed or with jobs I had or have. I can’t put into words how appreciative I am to his help as a mentor and how easy and fun he is to talk to.

I wrote a much more detailed review about my work with James in the Google Reviews for his 'Deeper Current Coaching & Darkness Retreats' page which I strongly encourage you to read. I'm unable to post the link. It’s difficult to fully express what James means to me, and the impact he has had on my life. Working with him has been the most meaningful experience I've ever had. He understands me in a way no one ever has, and from the very beginning he has challenged me in ways that stretched my capacity and helped me grow far beyond what I thought possible. His guidance has helped me develop deeper self-trust, resilience, and a stronger sense of purpose rooted in connection. James is so uniquely special and I highly recommend reading that full review. What also makes Noble Mentors so powerful is the incredible team James has built. I’ve had the privilege of working closely with several of them. Andrew has been a live-in mentor for me, staying at my house several nights a week. Our primary focus has been intensive ERP work for my OCD, and I've made significant progress. Andrew has also helped me cultivate invaluable life skills that I previously lacked. He has taught me how to cook and I now feel confident in the kitchen, able to prepare several delicious meals. He is teaching me Qi Gong, new mindfulness modalities, and has helped me cultivate a consistent journaling practice. He has helped me improve my executive functioning in my home, develop logistical adult life skills, learn new handy skills, and build healthier morning and evening routines, improving my sleep hygiene and overall well-being. He has also been a steady emotional presence during difficult moments — attuned, thoughtful, and always offering grounded perspective and wise advice. Together, we are turning my life around and I feel much more confident about my future Jake has also been an amazing presence in my life. I’ve gone to him during moments of struggle, adversity, sadness, and during challenging opportunities where deep integration has occurred, resulting in profound growth. He specifically works with me on Circling-related skills and practices, as I’m currently finishing a course to become a Circling facilitator and he is involved in that program. Jake is such a special and unique human being. He possesses deep wisdom, a grounded presence, empathy, and warmth that most people decades older would aspire to possess. He consistently meets me where I am with deep understanding, patience, and insight. Lastly, there is Isaiah. Isaiah is simply the man. He is an inspiration for me and embodies everything I want to be as a man and as a father. He has a brilliant future ahead of him as a therapist. He is very smart, creative, and I always have the best time with him. In my most immobilizing depressions, he has been a rock I leaned on, getting me out of the house, pushing me in necessary ways, and showing up empathetically when I was isolated. He was there for me in a patient, present way, meeting me where I was. Isaiah is also very musically talented (as is Jake), and we’ve had great times jamming. Playing music together has been a joy and a gift. He has helped me with many practical and logistical life skills, and I’ve learned a lot from him simply by spending time together and asking questions. When I have been overwhelmed with a lot on my plate, he has helped me get organized and we've knocked things off my list together and then on my own, reminding me and reinforcing that I am capable in those moments. He is not only one of my mentors — he is a true friend. Watching him balance being an incredible father and husband to his beautiful family while doing this meaningful work makes him even more inspiring. He represents the kind of man I aspire to be. Noble Mentors has changed my life. The level of care, presence, wisdom, and genuine human connection that James and his team provide goes far beyond anything I’ve experienced. If you’re looking for mentorship that is deeply personal, growth-oriented, and truly transformative. I cannot recommend them

We’ve worked with this mentoring company for several years, and they’ve been a steady, positive support. They meet them where they are and helped us with emotional support, academics, and practical life skills—especially when we needed it most. I’m truly grateful and would absolutely recommend them.

My parents and I are deeply grateful for the profound impact James has had on my brother’s life. My brother lives with schizophrenia and substance use disorder, and has needed more support than our family could provide alone. As many know, this population can be difficult to reach and support effectively. James stepped into that space with compassion and consistency. He communicated thoughtfully with our family, offering steady guidance during crises and reassurance in moments of uncertainty. James built a genuine relationship with my brother. He knew when to guide, when to challenge, and when to simply be present. In every interaction, James met my brother where he was. With time he became a trusted companion to my brother and at times like family to us. Despite the many hardships and barriers mental illness can bring, through James’s dedication, my brother has made real invaluable progress. With complete confidence, I recommend James to anyone seeking a skilled mentor for a loved one navigating mental illness. Through his leadership I have no doubt that he will also be exceptional at training other mentors who hope to make a difference the way he has. We can’t thank him enough as a family.

I have been working with James for over a year now. It started out as mentorship to guide me in better parenting my son. It quickly became more than that and he became my main support while going through the toughest period of my life. He is so kind and warm and was able to hold space for me through all of the difficulties I was facing. He has a way of making you feel safe and heard even over zoom. I truly felt he was in the room with me when we met. His insight, encouragement and guidance has given me a new way to move through and look at the world. I will be forever grateful for the work I have done and continue to do with him

If everyone had a James in their life, we would all be healthy, emotionally intelligent, resilient people who could handle any life stressor with grace. His ability to understand the breadth and depth of a family system is unparalleled. James has a gift for meeting each person exactly where they are, without judgment, and holding space with such clarity and intention that even the most difficult situations begin to feel manageable. He becomes the rudder in your life, helping you focus less on the turbulence of daily emotions and more on finding balance and direction through it all. I am profoundly grateful to James for the way he has supported our entire family showing each of us how to become our own source of resilience and grounding. Working with him is not just about getting through a hard time, it’s about learning how to thrive long after. I’m thrilled to hear about his mentoring program and the ripple effect it will have, helping other mentors transform countless lives.

Noble Mentors came into our lives during a time of fear and uncertainty. James brought a blend of steadiness, insight, and care, pairing our sons with mentors who truly saw and supported them. It allowed our family to breathe again and move through a challenging chapter with trust and resilience. His work is thoughtful, grounded, and truly transformative. I have referred him to many friends over the years, and all have echoed the same gratitude and awe. Noble Mentors isn’t just a service, it’s a lifeline, a community, and a vision for how young people can be supported into their strength. If you’re seeking mentorship that honors the whole person and fosters real growth, this is the place.

I've known James for over a decade and have seen his work with others up close and personally. His ability to engage with others, connect on an incredibly deep level, and help them find their own answers and make positive changes is incredible. He has the patience of a saint and the curiosity of a child! I've known few men who can embody the gentle warrior spirit such as James. It's been a gift in my life to know him professionally and personally and cannot recommend Noble Mentors enough.

I am so thankful for the relationship that I have developed with James Farmer these last few years. James is extremely gifted as a mentor, and his work at Noble Mentors is a display of his leadership and competence at developing others to be a strong steady presence for those who depend on them. James' ability to drive a conversation towards the deeper truths in life is set apart from other mentors, counselors, life coaches, etc. I have engaged with in the past. James has a tremendous willingness to spend quality time with our deepest wounds, and seek healing through inviting trusted individuals into the painful places of life. James' level of compassion is rare and his emotional intelligence is off the charts. I believe that James is utilizing his greatest strengths to build a Mentorship Program that will serve countless individuals in extremely healing and helpful ways.

James has been an excellent mentor to my son for several years. He is my son’s anchor and safe place. My son has expressed to me many times how much he thinks James has helped him. James sees the potential and strengths my son has, and encourages him. My son then feels hope, which turns into momentum and follow through. My son knows James cares, he is reliable, honest and my son trusts and confides in him. My son feels safe enough to express anger and sorrow with James. James holds my son accountable. They do much more that talk, there is an action plan. During meetings, there is a structured plan my son commits to do by the next meeting. James has also supported me over the years. He identified things I was doing that were not helpful to me or my son. With his support, I now do things different. James takes the time, and puts forth the effort to really help us. He is amazing!!

James is a one of a kind helper. My son has been working him for almost 7 years. His clarity of thought , wisdom, empathy and individualized approach has mentored my son through some very rough times and his relationship with me as a parent has been invaluable. I feel like James is my ears and eyes on the ground- always communicating but somehow maintaining my son’s privacy is a talent and an art. I am in the field of mental health and addiction and my colleagues have said repeatedly, this role of therapeutic/ practical mentor should be a model to meet the moment of the youth/young adult crisis. We are so lucky that James has been on our journey.

i have been scheduling personal sessions with james for over 2 years now and my experience has been fantastic! james truly sees me for who i am and has supported me in my experience/ has helped guide me to understand things and develop the tools on my own to become a better man for myself and others in my life, move forward and improve as a person and he is now helping me set up my own personal business! i have also been trained briefly by james to develop the skills and understanding to become a mentor which has also shown me a lot and i am extremely grateful for these experiences. i would highly recommend reaching out to james for anybody if you are ready/ have in interest or desire to improve as an individual regarding your personal relationships, professional relationships as well as your relationship with yourself! james provides a save, understanding, non judgmental environment that allows you to grow and process challenging things wether those are traumas, insecurities or past experiences you may have a hard time moving on from! i am very thankful to be working with james and will continue to schedule sessions with him as they have really helped me to improve in every aspect of my life!
